LMVCA To Picket Vicinity Of EC On Tuesday


A pressure group, Let my Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) will go ahead and picket the Electoral Commission tomorrow Tuesday September 29, 2015, due to the expiry of a court order restraining such an action. 

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday morning granted organisers of pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) the permission to picket at the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC) on September 29, 2015.

According the court, the exparte injunction secured by the Police had elapsed its 10 day lawful existence, hence the green light for organizers of the demonstration to picket around the EC.


The police went for an injunction preventing pressure groups LMVCA and Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) from picketing at the EC office on 29th September, 2015.

According to the police, the EC office is a security zone hence the groups should use a specified route to present their petition to an appointed EC official.

However, the organisers of the demonstration disagreed and took the issue to court seeking that the injunction be put aside.

, The Convener of "let my vote count" (LMVCA) David Asante, in an interview with Radio Ghana , the Convener of the 'Let My Vote Count Alliance', David Asante, says the group will follow laid down procedures to prevent a recurrence of the unfortunate incident that happened last week.  
   
He said the group will picket at the EC office and also go on with their scheduled demonstration. This according to him is a plus for Ghana's democracy.

“The court ruled that the police had no right to stop us from picketing at the premises of the EC...this is good news for democracy” he added
