Establish facility at airports to test agricultural produce for export - Philip Abayori

The President of Ghana Agriculture Chamber of Commerce, Philip Abayori says some banned agro-chemicals are still being imported into the system and government must work on this. 

According to him, the application of Agro-chemicals should also be done in the right manner and according to standards. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana on the EU Ban on the country’s vegetables, Mr Abayori said people who eat these contaminated vegetables are exposed to health hazards. 

He also proposed the adoption of an inventory list to trace importers who are secretly importing in-appropriate agro-chemicals into the system. 

He also suggested that a laboratory facility be established at the Airport to test products one hour before exportation. 

Meanwhile, an award winner farmer in the Ga East Constituency, Tetteh Nartey, says the services of Agricultural extension officers are needed more in these times than ever to educate farmers on how to best apply chemicals. 

He also asked farmers to reconsider the use of neem seeds to ward-off pests instead of chemical which they misapply.
