Government commended for implementing Free SHS Policy The Executive Secretary for the Coalition of Parents of Private Schools, Dr Simon Gbene has commended the government for implementing the progressive Free Secondary Education programme. He said private schools cannot declare free education and asked Government to consider extending some of the free facilities to the private institutions. He suggested that there should be an opportunity for discussions with the education Ministry to see how the private institutions can fit into the implementation of Government’s free SHS programme. Dr Gbene said private proprietors go in for loans to put up their infrastructure and this comes with high interest rates. This makes it difficult for private schools to implement the free SHS policy.
