Ousted Burkina Faso interim President, Michel Kafando freed

Burkina Faso's interim President, Michel Kafando has been freed and is in good health.

Prime Minister, Isaac Zida, who was also detained when the presidential guard stormed a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, remains under house arrest. 

The announcement comes ahead of a visit to that country by Senegalese President Macky Sall and Thomas Boni Yayi of Benin.

The two leaders will initiate a mediation process with the coup leaders who have agreed to the principle of dialogue.

Mr. Kafando and the Prime Minister were detained by the presidential guard during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

At least three people have died in protests after an ally of former-President, Blaise Compaore was named leader.

The US, France and the African Union (AU) have condemned the takeover.

The coup leaders have imposed a night-time curfew across the country and have ordered the closure of land and air borders.
