Women encouraged to venture into agriculture

A Deputy Director at the Department of Women in Agriculture Development, Mrs Paulina Addy says the department supports women all over the country to process raw food such as cassava into many finished products for local consumption and for export.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mrs Addy said the Department trains women to add value to raw food items to improve on their livelihood. 

Mrs. Addy said in Accra the Department has a laboratory where daily research is undertaken.

It also collaborates with other institutions related to food production and called on the private sector to come on board.

Mrs. Addy urged young girls and the unemployed to take advantage of the opportunities to create jobs for themselves.

Meanwhile, experts at an International Conference and exhibition on cassava have called on government to come out with a clear policy in the planting, processing and sale of cassava. 

This they believe will encourage players in the industry to step up the production of the product for home consumption and for export.
