President Mahama to Launch Free secondary education at Ekumfi Otuam

President John Dramani Mahama will Thursday afternoon launch the government's Free Secondary Education Program at Ekumfi Otuam, the hometown of the late President, Prof John Evans Atta Mills, in the Central Region.

The President will also inaugurate the Otuam Community Day SHS, to commence the program.

The government has promised to build 200 community day SHS across the country and the World Bank is also supporting the government to build additional day secondary schools. 

Districts without secondary schools have been given priority attention in the construction of the schools.

Every year thousands of JHS graduates who qualify to pursue secondary education are not able to do so due to the lack of space in existing facilities.

It is also to cater for poor parents and destitute who cannot afford the boarding system by bringing secondary education to their doorsteps.

Speaking to Radio Ghana ahead of the inauguration, the PRO of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey said every arrangement has been made for the program.

He said inhabitants are happy about the project, as well as its prospects.

Commenting on the capitation grant Rev. Bettey said over eight million cedis has been disbursed by the Ministry of Finance which will soon hit the accounts of the schools.
