Presidential guards detain interim leaders in Burkina Faso

Tension is mounting in Burkina Faso after the interim leaders of that country were detained by guards supporting ousted President Blaise Compaore.

President Michel Kafando and Prime Minister Isaac Zida were detained at a cabinet meeting at the presidential palace in the capital, Ouagadougou.

It comes two days after a commission recommended the disbanding of the presidential guard.

Shots were fired to disperse protesters who gathered at the presidential palace.

No injuries have been reported.

This new development is raising fears of a coup just weeks before the country is due to hold an election to replace its long serving leader Blaise Campoare who was ousted in a popular uprising late last year.
