Human Rights Advocates react to alleged corruption in Judiciary

Human Rights Advocates have waded into the alleged corruption in the Judiciary saying the scandal is not only shocking but it could also be dangerous for Ghana, if not handled with circumspection.  

Jonathan Osei Owusu who speaks for the Advocates, however, points out that Anas' video shows that there are still members of the Judiciary who have been steadfast to protect the integrity of the institution and must be commended. 

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Centre for Public Interest Law, Augustine Nibe has called on Ghanaians to stop glorifying people who acquire wealth through corrupt practices. 

He also stressed the need for the strengthening of anti-corruption institutions by making them independent financially. 

In his view, the current dispensation where the President appoints Heads of anti-corruption institutions does not help in the country's quest to fight corruption. 

Mr. Nibe's comments came at a time when the judiciary is embroiled with alleged corruption by the work of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
