Killing of Somali journalist condemned The murder of a journalist in Somalia on 8 September has been condemned by the UN cultural agency, UNESCO. Abdullahi Ali Hussein, a Somali editor for a news website, was shot dead in Mogadishu. Reacting to the death, UNESCO's Director-General, Irina Bokova, said that extremists must not be allowed to stifle freedom of expression through violence and intimidation. Ms Bokova said a free and vibrant media is essential for the rule of law and good governance in strife-torn Somalia. SOURCE: UN Radio
