Police Command Secures Injunction Against "Let My Vote Count" From Picketing EC & Parliament 

The Accra Regional Police command has secured a court injunction against a pressure group, "Let My Vote Count" from picketing the Electoral Commission and Parliament House on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. 

The organisers had intended to mobilise about two thousand people to demonstrate as part of efforts to mount pressure on the EC to compile a new Voters' Register ahead of the 2016 elections. 

But the police say the two places are security zones and are not open to any form of public manifestations and rather proposed alternative routes to the organisers. But the organisers rejected the police directives and vowed to defy it. 

ASP Afua Tengey is the P.R.O of the Regional Police Command. Meanwhile, the organisers of the picket, "Let My Vote Count", say they will go ahead with their action tomorrow as planned. 

A statement signed by the conveners David Asante, said Let My Vote Count is being partnered by Movement for Change, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), CHAMPS, and other associations to undertake Wednesday’s exercise. 

The statement said organisers met with the Police and they are ready to provide them with adequate security. It adds that they have agreed on a route. 

According to the statement, demonstrators will converge from 6am to 8am on the Obra Spot to begin their march to meet the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Charlotte Osei and present their petition. 

It said the marchers will be accompanied by drumming and dancing, for their all white protest to drum home the case for a new voters register for 2016.
