3rd Ghana garden and flower show ends monday



The 2015 Ghana Garden and Flower show ends today, 14th September 2015. The show, which began on Thursday 10th September 2015, has showcased numerous horticulture and floriculture related products and activities. 

There have also been many garden related fun activities, including a Jazz Night with Adomaa, Fashion Show, Party in the Park and a Chorale Festival. 

On Monday 14th September 2015, the exhibitions will continue till evening. Other activities on Monday include a business networking session from 10:00am – 12:00pm, a conference from 1:00pm – 3:45pm. The Closing Ceremony takes place with an awards event from 3:45pm. 

The show was opened on Monday by Her Excellency Tove Degnbol, Danish Ambassador to Ghana at the Efua Sutherland children’s park at a ceremony chaired by Her Exellency Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, the 2nd Lady.

Her Excellency Tove Degnbol highlighted the experience of Denmark in giving priority attention to environmental issues nationally, which has resulted in the establishment of a program and national orientation called “the State of Green”.

The theme of the Garden and Flower show this year is “The world is your garden” In her opening remarks, the Second Lady said gardens and flowers and all flora have such positive impacts on the lives and livelihoods of individuals, in the corporate world of business and as a nation. 

She charged society to play its role as collective trustees with joint responsibility of our environment to conscientiously conserve and enhance the beauty of our world, not only for ourselves, but for future generations.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur was pleased to see how the Ghana Garden and Flower Show started in 2013, has grown and blossomed and also provided a platform for showcasing some of Ghana’s best talents in horticulture and floriculture.

Dr. Sally Kosgei, former Minister of Agriculture in Kenya and Managing Director of Zena’s Roses, who was the Guest Speaker at the ceremony shared the Kenyan experience in floriculture. 

She made reference to how Kenya now has foreign exchange earnings, of $1 billion a year from export of flowers and the fact that about 10million people are employed in the sector. She emphasized that Ghana can regularly derive value from developing the export of flowers and plants.

Access Bank, the lead sponsor of the event was represented by the Group Head of Commercial Banking, Mrs. Joana Bannerman. She said “Access Bank is proud to partner Stratcomm Africa for the third time running in organizing the show.
