41 students get Tullow Group Scholarship

The Minister of Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, says the time has come for a paradigm shift in the country's educational sector so that greater attention is paid to technical and vocational education. 

In a speech read on her behalf at a send-off party for 41 Ghanaian students who have won the 2015/2016 Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme to pursue various post graduate studies in top universities in the UK, Ireland and France, Prof Opoku-Agyemang asked Tullow Ghana to support government in the quest to convert polytechnics into technical universities. 

For the first time in the five year history of the awards, more than 50 percent of the awardees are Ghanaians. 

In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister for Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah commended Tullow for broadening the scope of the scheme to include programs at the pre-tertiary level by awarding ten scholarships to indigenes of the Western region to the Jubilee Technical Training Centre. 

Mr. Kofi Buah also urged beneficiaries to return home after their studies and help with national development. 

The General Manager of Tullow Ghana, Charles Darko said the introduction of the scheme is to address both the industry skill gaps and host country's capacity development requirements.

He said the pre tertiary scheme is to ensure the development of intermediary skills which is the immediate needs of the oil and gas industry in the country.
