Police Commander rules out armed robbery as motive behind fatal shooting of  King George

The Bono-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Maxwell Atingane, has ruled out armed robbery as a motive or cause of the shooting to death of a Goaso based Radio Presenter, King George Abanga in the Asunafo North District of Bono-Ahafo last Thursday. 

According to him the fact that a sum of 200 Ghana Cedis and three mobile phones were found on him clearly rules out robbery as the cause of the fatal shooting, adding that the Police are treating the case as a murder. 

Speaking in an interview with the GBC in Sunyani, he said Police investigations are continuing to ascertain the reasons behind the incident saying it appears the deceased was targeted, expressing the hope that investigations will unearth the reasons behind the murder. 

Already speculation is rife that King George could have been targeted due to some Cocoa and politics related stories he had been following. 

The General Manager of Success FM, where the deceased worked, Mr. Asafo Agyei earlier this morning called for in depth and thorough investigations into matter since there seems to be more to the incident than just armed robbery. 

King George Abanga was shot late afternoon yesterday while enroute from Sankore to Goaso, after following up on some cocoa related stories. 

Initial reports from Police sources had spoken of some suspected robbers who had been targeting a COCOBOD District Officer who they believed to have withdrawn a huge sum of money at a bank at Sankore. 

King George was believed to have been shot by the robbers either because they mistook him for the Cocoa Officer with the cash or for trying to escape the robbery attempt. 

But the Regional Police Commander has put all that to rest with the information that robbery could not have been a motive for the murder. 

Police investigations to lay bare the real reasons are ongoing according to the Regional Commander, DCOP Maxwell Atingane.
