22 Judges And Magistrates Implicated In Anas Aremeyaw Anas Expose Appear Before Committee Investigating Allegation

Twenty-two judges and magistrates implicated in the recent exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas have appeared before the committee set up to investigate the case. 

Meanwhile, Ranking Member on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Joseph Osei- Owusu says he is scandalised by the massive alleged corruption in the judiciary. 

He said the expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas brought to the fore hardcore evidence which cannot be swept under the carpet. 

Speaking on Radio Ghana’s Current Affairs Programme “Behind the News”, Mr Osei-Owusu commended the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council for taking swift action by suspending the persons involved. 

He however pleaded with the public to be circumspect in commenting on the issues, as the case remains mere allegations until proven otherwise. 

A Law Lecturer at the Central University College, Yaw Oppong, says it is legally unacceptable to label the judges cited in the alleged corruption scandal guilty until proven by a court of competent jurisdiction.  

Speaking on “Behind the News”, Mr Oppong said there is the need for Anas to be cross-examined to establish the truth in the allegations. 

In a related development, there are mixed reactions on Anas's expose of alleged corruption in the judiciary. 

This came up when Radio Ghana sampled the views of the public regarding their confidence in the judiciary.
