NPP To Suspend Paul Afoko For Alleged Breach of Party's Constitution


The National Council of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has given clearance for processes to suspend the party’s chairman Paul Afoko for alleged breaches of the NPP constitution.

The Council has in a seven-page letter to the Party's Disciplinary Committee, ordered that steps be taken to suspend Mr. Afoko from the position of Chairman.

This was after the Council met with Mr. Afoko over some turbulence in the party.

The letter, signed by the Chairman of the Council, CK Tedam, is accusing Mr Afoko of breaching many aspects of the party's constitution.

The letter copied to Former President John Agyekum Kufour, Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, said, at a meeting held on the 30th of July, 2015, between the Council of Elders and national executives, it was made clear, the need to keep party matters away from the media.

It was also agreed at another meeting chaired by Paul Afoko that the allegation of financial malfeasance should be investigated by a five member committee and the findings submitted in a week.

The statement said, it therefore, came as a surprise to the NEC and the National Council of Elders to read in the dailies a statement from one Nana Yaw Osei who described himself as the spokesperson of the National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko about fighting corruption at all levels of the party.

The elders said the chairman's acceptance to allow the intrusion by the police in the party's internal matter following the complaint of a so called party member leaves much to be desired.

It said, the conduct of Chairman Afoko and his alleged spokesperson is in gross and flagrant violation of the NPP's constitution.

The statement has therefore called for at least, the suspension of Chairman Afoko until after the 2016 elections.
