Mahatma Gandhi's grandson shares vision of world peace


World peace cannot be achieved unless individuals accept non-violence as a way of life, according to Arun Gandhi, grandson of the late Mahatma Gandhi.

Mr Gandhi was speaking to UN ambassadors in New York on Wednesday who have been discussing how promoting a culture of peace can help bring about a more prosperous and sustainable future for all people.

Arun Gandhi, known as the Peace Farmer, delivered the keynote address. 
He said his grandfather's beliefs about non-violence were centred on personal transformation. 

"Grandfather believed that we have to have a global vision; that no country can live in stability and security if the rest of the world is going down the tubes. So, our futures and our destinies are interconnected with each other, and the only way any one country can live in stability and security is by creating stability and security all over the world."
 
He said while people look to governments to take the lead in peace initiatives, world peace can only be achieved if individuals accept non-violence as a way of life.
