Judicial Council commended for swift action to sanction alleged corrupt judges

Legal Practitioner, Chris Ackumey says it will be premature to label all judges as corrupt despite the investigation by undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas citing some judges and magistrates for corruption. 

In an interview with Radio Ghana’s Agatha Asamoah on “Behind the News”, Mr Ackumey commended the Judicial Council for the swift action to sanction those allegedly cited for corruption. 

Contributing to the discussion, another Legal practitioner, Abraham Amaliba said he and some colleagues had earlier petitioned the Chief Justice about corruption in the judiciary. 

He said the latest expose indeed underscores the need to clean up the massive corruption in the country's judiciary. 

Meanwhile, a Legal Practitioner, Ace Ankomah, says corruption in the judiciary is a reflection of society. 

He said the expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas will lead to a conversation on how to deal with corruption in judiciary and other sectors. 

Mr Ankomah said the fact that some judges took bribe does not mean the whole judiciary is corrupt. 

He said some judges on the tape refused to take the bribe and even threatened to prosecute litigants who tried to bribe them.
