Fire destroys 18 shops in Kumasi

Eighteen market stores and other property worth thousands of Ghana cedis close to the Railway Station in Kumasi were early Tuesday morning destroyed by fire. 

It took the timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service to bring the situation under control.

Police personnel from the Zongo District led by Superintendent, Adani Ameyaw Nyamekye also provided support to protect life and property and to prevent people from taking advantage of the situation to steal from the stores.

The Fire Service is investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, information gathered on the ground from a night watchman indicates that the fire may have begun from a faulty refrigerator in one of the stores.

One of the fire victims, Philomena Tetteh said items destroyed in her store include machines used for designing clothes and huge bails of African wear.
