Footballer sentenced 10 years in prison for robbery An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a footballer, Richard Kwakye to ten years imprisonment for attempted robbery. Kwakye, who is an ex-convict, admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency. He was recently released from prison after serving a thirteen month jail term for stealing. Kwakye attempted to rob one Elliot Gyimah in his home at Spintex in Accra. The prosecutor DSP Kwaku Bempah said on the 21st of July at about 6am, the complainant was in his apartment preparing for work when Kwakye suddenly sneaked into the room with a sharp knife. The convict then attempted to rob the complainant of his money and some personal belongings. The prosecutor said the complainant engaged Kwakye in a struggle and also screamed for help which attracted some neighbors to the scene. Sensing danger, the convict attempted to escape but luck eluded him as he was chased, arrested and handed over to the police. GBC
