Diabetes cited as cause of 60% deaths in Sub Sahara Africa

Diabetes will be the cause of 60 percent of deaths in Africa by 2020 if measures are not put in place to curb the situation. 

Currently, the disease is among the top three causes of death 

At a meeting in Accra to discuss the outcome of a study on diabetes and obesity, a Professor of Epidemiology from South Africa, Professor Pascal Andre Kengne, revealed that due to life styles, urban dwellers are more likely to get diabetes than those in the rural areas.

He suggested functional educational programs on diabetes to disseminate what he called the missed signals about the disease.
