"I will not contest 2016 parliamentary election" - Ofosu Ampofo


The Vice Chairman and Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo says he will not contest the Tema West seat as parliamentary candidate for the party in the 2016 elections.

According to Mr. Ampofo, the desire and expectations of members is an indication of the hope, trust and confidence members have repose in his potential as a candidate to win the seat.

However, he said his current position as a Vice Chairman and his appointment as Director of elections has added enormous responsibility and a more challenging role in the development of the party.

Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said this in a statement he issued and copied the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC) on Monday September 7, 2015.

“I deem it a national duty to manage the 2016 general elections to ensure that His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama lead the NDC into another election victory. I therefore regret to announce that I cannot contest as parliamentary candidate for the party in next year's elections.” He said.

The statement further said “I am convinced that the achievement of the NDC puts any party member who wins the impending primaries ahead of any other opponents in winning the seat.”

Mr. Ampofo in the statement, wished to assure party members he will do everything possible to support the NDC win the Tema West seat.

Adding that his decision not to contest, is in the supreme interest of the NDC Party.  

He has therefore pledges his commitment to the Party.
