Agric Ministry & NADMO team up to prevent outbreak of bird flu in 3 northern regions


The Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with NADMO to prevent the outbreak of the Avian Influenza in the three regions of the north. 

At a stakeholders meeting in Tamale on Saturday, the two institutions updated each other on the steps being taken to prevent an outbreak. 

The meeting also provided the opportunity to stakeholders to share ideas on the implications of the outbreak of the virus which has been detected in some regions of the country. 

The Northern Regional Vetenary Officer, Dr. Mathias Kojo Ayensu, in an interview with GBC’s Radio Savannah, explained that, even though the disease is under control in the affected regions, stakeholders are taking the necessary precautions to prevent an outbreak in other regions.  

He said security agencies along the entry points into the country have all been sensitised to the disease.
 
Dr. Ayensu appealed to the public to be on the lookout for symptoms of bird flu which includes a blueish comb.
 
He advised the public to quarantine sick birds and report to the Ministry of Agriculture or the Vetenary service. 

Mr. Ayensu appealed to the media to educate the public on the Avian Flu or bird flu to prevent its spread in the country. 

The Head of Man-Made Disasters in charge of NADMO, Tamimu Adamu added that, NADMO has already organised a meeting for all the security agencies in the region and personnel of the Northern Regional Co-Ordinating Council to sensitise them to the prevalence of the disease.
