Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advocate de-criminalisation of abortion

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ghana, SOGOG is pushing for the de-criminalisation of abortion. 

According to the society, making abortion a criminal offence has compelled many young females to turn to quack doctors, a situation that has contributed to high fatalities, thereby increasing the country's maternal mortality rate. 

The President of SOGOG, Prof Enyonam Kwawukume made the call at the 6th Annual General and Scientific Meeting of the Association in Accra. 

The meeting is focusing on improving the quality of healthcare for women in Ghana.
