Twenty-nine police officers interdicted since January Twenty-nine Police Personnel, including a female were interdicted by the Police administration since the beginning of this year for violations of its rules and regulations. They were allegedly involved in Police enlistment fraud, unlawful possession of narcotics and failing to perform their duties properly. Other offences were indiscriminate firing of firearms, absence from duty without permission and sex related offences. The affected officers are a Chief Inspector, Sergeant, two Corporals, seven Lance Corporals and nine Constables. The Director General of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP David Ampah-Benin told the media in Accra that out of the 29 personnel, two were exempted. He said the Police administration will not condone and connive with any act of lawlessness which does not conform with the ethics of the profession. DCOP Ampah-Benin said no police will be shielded, saying some of the officers have been either jailed or dismissed. He said the special investigation team set up by the Police administration is still monitoring personnel to whip them to order. He urged the public to report any act of lawlessness by the police to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau, PIPS, for prompt action. TIMES
