Negligence of District Electoral Officer disenfranchises voters in Nasia Electoral Area in West Mamprusi

Voters at Nasia Electoral Area in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region have been left disappointed as they could not vote on Tuesday in the District Level Elections due to some anomaly on the ballot paper. 

The voters went to the polling stations this morning to cast their votes only to realize that the pictures of the two candidates contesting for the assembly member position have been swapped. 

The people protested against the situation, refused to vote and asked the electoral officials to pack their electoral materials and leave. 

One of the affected candidates who happens to be the former incumbent Assemblyman, Alhassan Salifu Adam said he is bitter about the development. 

According to him, the postponement of the elections will mean an additional cost to him.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs of the EC, Christian Owusu-parry said there is the need for an official complaint to be made to the Commission. 

He said the situation can be blamed on the negligence of the District Electoral Officer.
