Deputy Minister asks Ghanaians to apply “The changing dynamics of sanitation practices"


The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to apply themselves to what termed " the changing dynamics of sanitation practices".  

This he observed will enable the Citizenry to do away with their old ways of handling sanitation issues and at the same time to improve health conditions of the Country.  

Mr. Agyekum made the appeal when he addressed mini durbars in the Sene East and West Districts to whip interest in the up -coming Tenth National Sanitation Day in Bono-Ahafo.  

Mr. Agyekum was interacting with Traditional Leaders of the Bassa, Nkomi, Wiase and Dwan Traditional Areas.  

The Deputy Minister, who was on tour with the Deputy Bono-Ahafo Regional Minister, Justice Samuel Adjei and the MP for Sene East, Dominic Napare, equally entreated Chiefs to liaise with District and Municipal Assemblies in their areas to ensure that people who fall foul of sanitation laws are brought to book.  

The Omanhene of Bassa, Nana Owusu Sakyi promised that he would lead his people to massively participate in the Sanitation Day and thereafter continue with it.  

He said a plan is in place to focus on one of the 71 Communities in his traditional area each Friday to carry out clean ups.  He explained they chose Friday because traditionally it is a resting day.  

The MP for Sene East, Dominic Napare, indicated that he and his Counterpart from Sene West, have agreed to work hand in hand with Traditional Authorities in up scaling sanitation practices in their areas while also championing development projects in their constituencies.  

Deputy Bono-Ahafo Regional Minister, Justice Agyei, for his part, said the Mahama led administration wants to leave a legacy in terms of challenging citizens to make good sanitation their second religion.  

The Ministers and the MP also used the opportunity to inspect some development projects.
