Court discharges first prosecuting witness in Ekow Micah trial

The Circuit Court in Accra on Monday discharged the first prosecuting witness, Detective Corporal Evans Adu, who testified in the Ekow Micah trial. 

This was after the Defence Counsel ended with his cross-examination. 

Mr Adu told the Court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, that Ekow Micah was just a foot away from the bag that contained the dried leaves. 

When he was arrested, he intimated that he opened the polythene bag in the presence of Micah and questioned him on the content. 

Mr Adu also confirmed during the cross-examination that Micah told him he uses the said substance as a musician to perform at functions. 

Detective Corporal Adu is one of the officers who caused the arrest of the President of the Music Council of Ghana on August 4, on a charge of possession of narcotic drugs. 

He told the Court during his evidence-in Chief that he was investigating Micah in an alleged extortion case during which he found a substance suspected to be Indian hemp in the "back pack" of Micah at his home. 

Micah has since denied the charge and remains in custody. Hearing continues on the 2nd of September.
