Church Assassin Charles Antwi released

The Church assasin, Charles Antwi, who went to President John Mahama's place of worship with the intention to assassinate him has been released by an Accra Human Rights Court. 

The Court presided over by J.A Okwabi ordered the release of Charles Antwi. He said he based his ruling on the documents presented to him which clearly showed the circuit court judge, Francis Obiri, erred.

The judge in a certiorari order ruled that Antwi, who has been declared mentally unstable after medical examination, should be taken to the Psychiatric Hospital for treatment.

The 36-year-old was sentenced with a 10-year jail term on his first appearance before a Circuit Court, however a human rights Lawyer Francis Xavier-Sosu appealed to set aside the sentencing of Antwi.

Charles Antwi was apprehended at Ringway Gospel Center when a member noticed his nervous and suspicious behaviour during church service.

A policeman and a member of the church escorted Antwi outside and found a loaded and cocked pistol on him following a search.

President John Dramani Mahama and his family worship regularly at the Ringway Gospel Center but were not present in church when the incident occurred.
