EC confident of smooth conduct of elections

The Electoral Commission says all is set for Tuesday’s District Level Elections. 

Acting Director of Public Affairs of EC, Christian Owusu Parry told Radio Ghana that measures are in place to ensure that electoral materials arrive on time. 

Voting begins at 7am and ends at 5pm. 

Meanwhile, the NCCE has urged residents of the Northern Region to participate in Tuesday’s district level elections and vote for competent people to drive development at the local level. 

Northern Regional Director of the NCCE, Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani said district assemblies are responsible for undertaking major development projects, hence the need for competent people to be elected into the assemblies to ensure efficient use of resources. 

He was speaking at a forum organised by the Northern Regional Office of the NCCE with support from the European Union, to whip up enthusiasm amongst the people in the district assembly elections. 

Alhaji Razak Saani also made a case for women candidates, urging the people to support them to ensure that majority of the people are not left out in the decision making process. 

In a related development, there has been a lot of concern about the low number of women contesting the District Level elections. 

Many reasons have been attributed for this trend key among them is the lack of interest women have shown in the elections. 

Radio Ghana puts the spotlight on a young woman who has taken the bold step to contest the assembly elections on Tuesday. 

Munir Karimi is a Media practitioner vying in the Kaizer Electoral area and admits that competing with male counterparts has not been easy. 

She is determined to win and tackle the poor sanitation conditions in her Electoral area.
