Minister of Health calls for new strategies to eliminate diseases in Ghana


The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia has called on all partners in the health sector to identify and implement innovative strategies to improve upon the fight against malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/aids towards the elimination of diseases in the country. 

He noted that the country’s progress in controlling the diseases needs a concerted collaboration of local, state and national partners from all sectors of the society. 

Mr Segbefia made the call at the 5th Patron Saint Clara and Long Service Award Day celebration of the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital at kpando in the Volta Region.

The Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital was established in 1960 under the auspices of the late Bishop Anthony Konings when Dr Margret Maria Marquart and other two sisters of the grail movement from Germany came to Kpando as the core pioneer medical staff. Since then the hospital has made significant impact and dedicated to quality health care to good people of the Kpando municipality and beyond. 

The Minister of Health Alex Segbefia lauded the Catholic Mission for its pivotal role in development of the country in the areas such as health, education, agriculture and evangelism. 

He stressed the need for the Mission to collaborate with the government to improve the living condition of the people. 

The Administrator of the Hospital Emmanuel Hanson Torde disclosed a new OPD and an accident and emergency center would be constructed.

This according to him comprises among other facilities a six consulting rooms, a pharmacy and a well ventilated waiting areas for the convenience of clients and staff. 

The occasion was used to raise funds to build an OPD facility to enhance and expand health care services to the people in the area.
