About 5,728 file for unit committee elections in the Eastern Region About five thousand 728 people in the Eastern Region filed their nomination papers to contest the Unit Committee Elections which comes off next Tuesday, September, 1st 2015. Nine hundred and 99 of them representing 17 percent are females while the rest being 83 percent are all males. The Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission Serlomey Dogbey, gave the statistics in an interview with a GBC Sunrise FM Correspondent in Koforidua in the New Juaben Municipality. He said feverish preparations are being made towards the elections for Assembly members and Unit Committees. According to Mr. Dogbey, enough training have been organised for all the Officials whose services are needed on the day of elections from the regional to District and Municipal levels. That apart, he said, all, the relevant materials required for the exercise including verification machines and result declaration forms have been received and distributed to the districts and municipalities. Mr. Dogbey said, with the exception of Lower Manya Krobo municipality, all the remaining 25 districts will conduct the elections. He disclosed that the exercise will be carried out in 819 Electoral Areas in the region and advised all eligible voters to go to the polls on that day to exercise their franchise. This, Mr. Dogbey said, will enable them choose the right caliber of people to represent them at the District and Municipal Assemblies. Almost all the District and Municipal Electoral Officers were at the Regional Directorate of EC in Koforidua collecting their materials to their destinations as a step in the preparations for the elections.
