ECG disconnects Koforidua Polytechnic for non payment of bills 



The Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected the Koforidua Polytechnic in the Eastern region for owing the company 791 thousand 412.69 Ghana cedis as at July this year. 

The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Nii Annang Mensah-Livingstone, who disclosed this to  GBC's Sunrise FM  said the company's management had a meeting with the Director of Finance at the institution that it will be disconnected if it failed to pay its debts by Monday and backed by their words when no payment was made. 

Mr. Mensah-Livingstone bemoaned the approach used by the ECG to bring their activities to a halt in spite of the letter sent from the cabinet instructing the company not to disconnect institutions including the polytechnics with copies to the Ministry of Power and the Managing Director of ECG. He said the disconnection has really affected activities on campus while it is the period to work on admissions for the 2015/2016 Academic year. 

The situation, Mr. Mensah-Livingstone said, this has compelled the institution to squeeze water out of rock to spend one thousand 500 Ghana Cedis daily to purchase fuel for the plant to provide power to substitute what ECG has been providing. 

He therefore appealed to ECG to consider the services provided by the institution through human resource development and reconnect them. 

The Registrar further appealed to Government and Non-governmental organisations to go to their aid to enable the institution function efficiently and effectively.
