Media tasked to highlight issues on reproductive health of women

The Young Urban Women at Kpobiman in the Ga-South Municipality have urged the media to challenge oppressive norms that affect the sexual and reproductive health of women.

They have also challenged media personnel to continuously raise awareness on the comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Right, SRHR, of women.

The young women made the appeal during a media advocacy session organised by the Ark Foundation at Kpobiman.

The two and a half year project of the Ark Foundation, Ghana, seeks to mobilise and empower two thousand young women from age 15 to 25 in poor urban and peri-urban areas in Ghana.

The Project Manager of the Young Urban Women Project, Millicent Boakye, said young women through the skill training and education offered under the project have woken up to the reality that they can also become prosperous and responsible. 

Some beneficiaries of the project told Radio Ghana that hitherto, most girls got into child bearing at an early age without any skill or appreciable education to earn income. 

They said they became vulnerable and get trapped in the poverty cycle.
