Government set to state position on GMA strike

Government is set to state its definite position on the strike by members of the Ghana Medical Association.  

Doctors at public health facilities have been on strike for almost three weeks protesting the absence of a codified condition of service.  

The strike has greatly affected quality health service delivery in the country. 

Despite many appeals, the doctors have remained on the strike. 

Government meanwhile has indicated that the strike is illegal and for which reason it pulled out of negotiations with the GMA. 

Health Minister, Alex Segbefia is expected to roll out measures to be adopted by government to assuage the impact of the strike on the citizens and state clearly government`s position on the strike at a news conference on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, the Ghana medical Association, GMA says it is not aware of any new proposals from government regarding their conditions of service. 

GMA Deputy General Secretary, Dr Justice Yankson told Radio Ghana that the GMA has also not received any communication from the government since their last meeting on Friday. 

Dr. Yankson said the doctors are resolute on their stance not to resume work unless they have signed codified negotiated conditions of service. 

Dr Yankson also announced that the doctors have suspended their plan of mass resignation. 

According to him, it is even not true that the doctors have wanted to resign by the 29th of last month as widely speculated.
