Indonesia passenger plane wreckage located in remote Papua

The wreckage of an Indonesian plane which went missing with 54 people on board has been spotted in the remote western Papua region. 

The Trigana flight lost contact on Sunday as it flew from the provincial capital, Jayapura, to the town of Oksibil. 

Reports say Indonesian authorities have suspended a search and rescue mission due to bad weather. 

Officials have confirmed they spotted debris near the town of Oksibil. 

The aircraft was found by local people in the Bintang highlands region. 

The Trigana flight was heading to the town from the provincial capital, Jayapura, when it lost contact with air traffic controllers half an hour later. 

The plane was carrying 44 adult passengers, five children and infants, and five crew members.  It is not yet known if anyone survived.
