GIFEC to develop inmate locator system for prisons

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, GIFEC will this year develop a system called ‘Prison Inmate Locator System.’ 

The move which is one of the many projects by GIFEC this year is to help keep records of remand prisoners and action taken on them when the need arises. 

The Administrator of GIFEC, Kobby Acheampong at a media encounter in Accra said with this system, the status of prisoners will be established from the time of their arrest and this will enable their relatives to have information about their status while they are in prison.

It will also eliminate the system whereby remand prisoners stay in prison for a long time and are not tried.
