Government asked to implement 40-year development plan with bi-partisan approach

Panelists on GBC's current affairs programme ''Talkiing Point'' have hailed preparations towards the launch of the 40 year National Development Plan by the National Development Planning Commission, NDPC, describing it as the pivot for accelerated socio - economic development of the country. 

The Director General of the NDPC Dr. Nii  Moi Thompson was optimistic that the extensive consultation undertaken by the commission to solicit support from stakeholders for the country's development is an indication of a general acceptance by Ghanaians on the need for the plan. 

For his part, a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Ghana, Dr. Eric Osei Assibey, said the success of the plan will depend on visionary leadership as well as the need for political parties to bury ideological considerations as much as possible for the over all good of the country.

A Lawyer and member of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah called for the exploration of the directive principles of state policy and the need to tie financial objectives to development plans.
