TV license injunction case for court today

An Accra Fast Track  High Court, will today  hear an application for an order of interlocutory injunction brought by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV licence fees. 

Dr. Wereko-Brobby, a former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority and Promoter of Radio EYE’ filed a writ of summons on the 29th of last month against GBC, the National Media Commission , the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Attorney General challenging the propriety of other agencies apart from GBC benefiting from the tv license fees to be collected. 

His writ follows public announcement that a formular has been approved detailing how proceeds from the tv license fees will be shared among institutions such as the GBC, NMC, and GIBA. 

According to Dr. Wireko-Brobbey, it is only GBC that is legally mandated to benefit from the tv license fee.  

The application for an order of interlocutory injunction seeks to restrain GBC from collecting the TV Licence Fees from the intended date of the 1st of this month and sharing the fees with the said bodies. 

Today's hearing is about whether or not GBC can go ahead with the collection of the tv license before the substantive case of the sharing of the proceeds is dealt with by the court.
