Enforce law to make drivers rest after long hours - MTTD

The Eastern Regional Head of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Larbi, has called for the enforcement of Traffic Regulation 118 of LI 2180. 

The instrument forbids drivers from driving for long hours without rest. The law states that a driver must rest for at least 30 minutes after driving continuously for four hours without a break.

Speaking in Koforidua, Chief Superintendent Larbi, explained that the law is not to harm drivers but rather help them to take control of their steering wheels. 

He cautioned against the use of drugs by drivers. In Chief Superintendent Larbi's view, the use of drugs in attempt to exceed the normal working hours may likely affect driving abilities and in turn cause road carnage. On road accident statistics in the Region, Chief Superintendent Larbi said, 14 deaths were recorded in July, a decline from June this year which recorded 23 deaths.
