Ghana ranked 1st for implementing road safety plans Ghana has been ranked first among 23 countries in Africa by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) for implementing most Road Safety Action Plans developed within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety initiative. This ranking means that at the mid-term of the decade long global initiative, Ghana is recognized as fully implementing most of her commitments within the context of its national blueprint. The Chief Executive of the DVLA, Rudolf Beckley, says Ghana has indeed done well by achieving the criteria. Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mr. Beckley said although fatalities are still prevalent, the situation has improved, but added that there is still room for improvement. On the re-training of drivers, Mr. Beckley said it hinges on the second pillar of the UN assessment. GBC
