Gov't will not authorise any expenditure outside budget - Prez Mahama


President John Mahama, says he will not authorise any expenditure on wages or allowances outside what is provided for in the budget.

According to him, the move will not only have dire consequences on the economy but will also derail the Single Spine Pay Policy. 

The President noted that he will remain focused and do what is just no matter the political cost. 

President Mahama, stated this when he
joined the country's midwives to mark their 80th anniversary at Legon.

" if you are Alive today,thank the Midwife". This is the slogan of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association. 

As the Association marks its 80th Anniversary, it looks forward to providing better and improved maternal healthcare to the growing public. 

President Mahama,who was the Special guest raised some concerns with the recent agitations by Medical Officers and the directive by the Ghana Medical Association to
lay down their tools. 

The President intimated that government is
committed to improved working conditions of all public sector workers and is ready to negotiate in good faith. But whilst Professional groups have legitimate right to negotiate,they must do so devoid of
coercion. 

As a matter of equity and principle, President Mahama,states governments position on the matter President Mahama,announced the training of six hundred midwives in
CHPS Compounds and other health centres across the country in the
usage of Ultra Sound Scanning Machines for pregnant women. 

The training program will begin in the first quarter of  next year.

President Mahama,also announced the vision of government to investmore in the training of more midwives as the ratio of midwives to
pregnant women do not add upThe President of the International Confederation of Midwives,of which Ghana belongs Frances Day-Stirk, stated that issues bedeviling
nursing the world over can only be solved with Political will. 

She asked the Ghana Registered Midwives Association to continue to be in
dialogue with government about their needs.
 
The President of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association Mrs Joyce Jetuah, appealed to government to grant them the bargaining power to negotiate on their
own behalf. 

He also asked that the about one thousand newly qualified midwives are recruited into the health sector.
