Groups appeal to doctors to suspend strike

Some senior doctors and political leaders have asked the striking doctors to suspend their action and return to work while government takes immediate steps to address their concerns. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the former flagbearer of the PNC, who is also a medical consultant, Dr Edward Mahama said as a professional he gets worried anytime doctors go on strike. 

He said the situation is a signal of institutional failure and asked government to strengthen civil and public institutions to enable them to work efficiently to avoid delays in solving issues. 

Meanwhile, the leader of the United Renaissance Party, Kofi Wayo asked the doctors to remember their Hippocratic Oath which enjoins them to serve the people without any hindrance. 

Mr Wayo also asked government to ensure that the systems work to avoid industrial actions. 

In a related development, the General Secretary of the PNC, Bernard Monarh says the Party feels so scandalized by the strike embarked upon by medical doctors when negotiations are still ongoing. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mr Monarh said the PNC shares in the aspirations of the doctors to improve their conditions of service but also reckoned that the doctors also owe the tax payer the obligation to serve instead of taking human life for granted.
