4th August, 2015 The Daily Graphic supports the call by the Ghana Bar Association and other human rights groups for the re-opening the Charles Antwi case. The man was convicted of wanting to kill the President. Much as the paper believes the likes of Antwi should not be allowed to wield unlicensed fire arms with careless abandon, it is worried at the swift manner with which he was convicted without allowing him access to a legal counsel and examining his mental state. The Graphic believes a thorough examination of the facts could unravel the real intention of the convict and possibly expose other perpetrators of the crime if indeed, Antwi meant this actions. The Ghanaians Times adds its voice to the call by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Madam Sherry Ayittey, for the awards planning committee of the National Farmers Day to consider an alternative award package for fisher folks instead of giving them Wellington boots, hoes and cutlasses. To the Paper, giving such items to fishers who ply their trade at sea will not inure to their benefit. It says agriculture remains the foundation of the economy and should be accorded the recognition and support it deserves, but these recognition should be extended to the various sectors. The Daily Heritage expresses its condolences to Okuapeman on the loss of its paramount chief, Oseeadeeyo Addo Dankwa. The paper notes that though the traditional council has tasked the king makers to peacefully elect a successor to the stool, the transition process appears to be smooth and orderly, with the factions actively taking part in the activities. It expresses hope that the prevailing peace would be maintained throughout the process. GBC
