29th July, 2015 The Ghanaians Times is amazed at how officials responsible for payment of salaries and allowances could allow the non-payment of Junior doctors to deteriorate to such level. The Paper says it is unacceptable for people to work for nearly a year without being paid. However, it commends the doctors for being at post all this while, rendering services to their patients in spite of the circumstances they find themselves. The Paper suggests a thorough investigation be conducted into the cause of the problem and those responsible dealt with accordingly. The Daily Heritage believes the jailing of gunman Charles Antwi was too hasty. It says there is more to the strange incident than meets the eye therefore the need to have dug more and not just be satisfied with the confession of a man who seems to be mentally unstable. The Paper says a longer period of examination could have afforded the investigative apparatus the opportunity to unravel more mysteries surrounding the case. This is especially so when the man mentioned that a security officer gave him directions to the President's Church. The General Telegraph commends the rescue teams which worked under the supervision of NADMO with speed and efficiency to rescue at least 18 people from the collapse building at Cantoments. It said but for their prompt intervention the number of casualties would have been higher. The Paper expresses shock at the fact that there is no national institution with responsibility for ensuring the appropriate design, building and monitoring of construction work in Ghana to make them safe for occupation and the conduct of commercial activities. The Herald wonders why the road in front of Madina Melcom Shopping Centre is in such a deplorable state. The Paper therefore asks what the owners of the shopping mall are doing to bring some relief to their customers. It says every company, puts aside some money for Corporate Social Responsibilities as it is a way of giving back to the community. The Paper believes it will not be too much of a burden for Melcom to set aside some of their funds to repair the road that contributes in lot to its profit. GBC
