Bimbilla Clashes: Nanumbas initiate steps to restore peace

Nanumbas in Tamale have initiated steps to restore peace in Bimbilla. 

They say they will organize a peace walk in the Bimbilla Township with both chieftaincy factions to help resolve their differences.

At a meeting in Tamale organised by the concern Citizens of Nanung, the group expressed worry over the recent Chieftaincy disputes in Bimbilla where more than eight people lost their lives and several property destroyed.

They condemned the recent killing and described it as backward and an affront to the development of the area. 

The meeting was attended by both parties in the conflict. It called on both factions to see each other as one people with a common destiny and use dialogue to settle their differences.

The Bimbilla clashes were triggered by the refusal of one of the factions to honour its obligation of presenting a share of meat from animals killed in the local abattoir to the regent as custom demands.

Military and police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

The Bimbilla Township has been under curfew for over a year now and it has recently been reviewed from the previous 10pm to 5am to 4pm to 6am.

The conflict has affected socio-economic activity in the area. Some civil servants in Bimbila and its surroundings have also expressed worry and threatened to leave the area if a lasting solution is not found to the problem.
