President Obama and Prime Minister Hailemariam meet President Obama and Prime Minister Hailemariam have addressed development, investment, human rights and security issues in their 50-minute press conference in Addis Ababa Monday. The prime minster described Ethiopia as "a beacon for African independence" and "an inspiration for all the black people's struggles" and he said the country's commitment to democracy is real and "not skin deep". President Obama said that continued development and security in Ethiopia depends on good governance and he said that he had a "frank discussion" with the prime minister on the issue of "strengthening democracy". "As you take steps in moving your country forward, the US will be standing with you," President Obama said. Mr Obama also praised Ethiopia's work in fighting the Somali insurgents al-Shabab.
