Agenda 2063: The Way forward For Africa’s Accelerated Dev't

Since 1963, the quest for African unity has been inspired by the spirit of Pan Africanism Focusing on liberation, politics and economic independent and self-reliance. Building upon history, the African Union together with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa is implementing Africa’s economic road map for the next 50 Years. A long term development plan christened, “AGENDA 2063’’. In the 50 years Agenda, the AU has reviewed its plans and commitment taking into account lessons from the past. In the New AU agenda the critical issues include placing mobilization the people and their ownership of continental programmes at the core ; the Principle of self- reliance and Africa financing its developmental agenda domestically Through foreign exchange from natural resources. Agenda 2063 was extensively discussed at the Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Finance Monetary Affairs and United Nations Economic Commission for African Ministers of Finance in Addis Ababa Ethiopia in March, 2015. Over one 1000 participants attended the conference including 50 African ministers of Finance Planning and development, central Bank governors and key leaders from business and Academia.
