Two MPs win surveillance powers legal challenge in UK

Two MPs in the Uk have won a High Court battle over laws which they maintain allow the police and security services to "spy on citizens" without proper safeguards.

The laws were fast-tracked through Parliament last July, to allow security agencies to gather phone and internet data.

The two, David Davis and Tom Watson challenged the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act earlier this year, arguing it is incompatible with human rights.

Two judges discovered that the act is inconsistent with EU law.
