Convicted Ali Gabass To Lose Medical Licence

The Registrar at the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Elis Atsukpui says Dr Gabass' Medical Licence could be revoked based on a number of reasons. 

He said conviction is one of the basis so the Council will begin the process pending the final determination of the case.

A Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Moses Foh-Amoaning says the 25 year sentence handed to Dr Sulley Gabass is fair. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, he said a lot of things were considered before the verdict was arrived at. 

Mr Foh-Amoanin said those who hold contrary views are entitled to them but the law must reign supreme. 

He said the appeal being considered by Dr Gabass' Counsel will not hold. 

Human Rights Lawyer and Counsel for the victim, Francis Xavier Sosu has expressed relief at the sentence. He said it is good news for his client and family. 

According to him, justice has been served and the law has triumphed. 

Mr Sosu told Radio Ghana that he is prepared to meet Dr Gabass and his Counsel in court when they file an appeal at a higher court. 

Meanwhile, lawyers of convicted medical doctor Dr Ali-Gabass have described as harsh the 25 years sentence handed to their client. 

One of the Lawyers, Phixon Owoo said they are going to appeal against the judgment. 

Dr Gabass has been sentenced for defiling a 16-year old boy by an Accra circuit court. 

His lawyer said as a first offender, and someone who is a medical doctor, society would need him, hence a more lenient sentence would have been appropriate. 

The lawyer believes the second charge of unnatural carnal knowledge failed because the prosecution had no evidence to prove its case.
