Eight Persons Arrested In latest Bimbilla Clashes with Four People Reported Dead

The police in Northern region have arrested eight persons in connection with the latest clashes in Bimbilla which have left four people dead. 

Nine others have also been injured in the gun battle  after two groups of butchers clashed over the payment of homage to the regent.  

The incident was triggered by the refusal of one of the factions to honour their obligation of presenting a share of animals killed in the local abattoir to the regent as custom demands. 

The  Regional Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna  has condemned the incident and called for an urgent REGSEC meeting to review the situation. 

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Radio Ghana that calm has been restored to the area and assured the residents of their safety.

Meanwhile, the Police have warned against any reprisal attacks following sporadic shooting in Bimbilla.

The PRO of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, warned that the Police will not tolerate escalation of the disturbances.
